BLESSED Arthur BELL OSF
BLESSED Arthur BELL OSF was
born in Temple Broughton in the County of Worcestershire; he was a seminarian in
St. Omer, and later at the Royal College of St. Alban in VALLADOLID. He was
ordained a priest in Salamanca in 1618.
That same year while still in Spain, he entered the Franciscan Order. He worked
in Douai, Gravelines and Brussels and after returned to England where he
exercised his missionary work between 1634 and 1646. Condemned for being a
priest, he stripped, hung, drawn and quartered in Lancaster, on the 7th of
August 1646.
He was beatified by Pope John Paul II, on the 22nd of November 1987.
